The Competition

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the GEU Sevens blog. Results and tables going back to 2005 have been added as tabs to create an ongoing history.

This somewhat unique tournament has traditionally been played with 8 player teams, on a minimum sized full football pitch with full sized goals. Three substitutes are allowed.

A player may play for two teams but needs to pay the participation fee for both teams.

Ring in players (including goalkeepers) on the night are not permitted.

Now a league based competition, it consists of seven rounds up to Christmas and a further seven rounds from early February.

The top scorer in all phases of the competition will be awarded the Stephen Keys Memorial Trophy. Stephen passed on while playing football. He remains a much respected and honoured player in Glen Eden United and other West Auckland clubs.

Players must be over 38. One player per squad may be between the age of 35 and 38.

Teams must submit a team list to the organisers before the competition starts.

There are no offsides, no slide tackles and corners are thrown rather than kicked.

Game duration is 20 minutes per half with a short break.

Referees are volunteers and must be treated with respect.

Red carded players will be forcibly substituted. The circumstances of their removal will be considered by the committee. A decision will then be made as to whether the offending player is deemed worthy of continuing in the competition.
