Welcome to the results page of the GEU Sevens competition for 2018.
The competition commenced on the 31st October after which there was a gap until the 15th November when Round 2 was played.
The last night of the league rounds saw Barney's Army narrowly defeat Fukawe to win the league on goal difference over Ballsy who won their game earlier in the evening.
The Cup rounds started on 13th February. Semis were completed on the 20th and the big Finals Night was on the 27th February.
By chance, the four trophy finals saw the teams play out in exact order of the final league placings with first playing second, third playing fourth etc.
Congratulations go to;
Barney's Army for achieving the double, winning the league and winning the cup in a 4-2 win over Ballsy FC. The Cup final featured some scintillating football from both sides. It was a joy to watch.
Remnants for winning the Shield in a 3-1 win over The Tufty Club with stunning goals from Trev and a brace from Ed including possibly the goal of the tournament.
Gnarly Bastards for upsetting the league order to secure the Plate final by winning the penalty shoot out after a thrilling 4-4 draw with Fukawe that saw the lead swing through out the game.
The Who for winning the Bowl trophy with a 3-2 win over The Jokers with the winning goal being scored in the last 3 seconds of the game.
Tony Yates (60 years old) of Fukawe winning the Stephen Key Memorial Trophy as top scorer in all competitions with 18 goals. Three being scored on the finals night.
Rannoch Goodwin, also of Fukawe winning the Player of the Tournament award. Rannoch broke a couple of ribs and suffered a punctured lung, in the quarter finals, two weeks before the finals night. Undeterred, he turned up for the final and scored 2 goals in the process.
There were no slide tackles, no offsides and by and large the referees were respected - although a tiny minority needed reminding.
238 goals were scored and there were no sending offs.
